Design systems based on Laser, MEMS mirror and SPAD technologies (internship)

Attività

  • Design a SW for reading the distances statistics from a ToF sensor and then computing and rendering the 3D polar output
  • Study and optimize the reading time of the ToF sensor by modifying an FPGA SW
  • Characterization of a new piezo-MEMS mirror
  • Design, realize and test a new embedded system for controlling a piezo-MEMS mirror
  • Study and test new control and projection algorithm (Lissajous curves)
  • Study of optical systems and SNR from laser output to SPAD sensor

Obiettivi formativi

The internship will start practicing on MEMS mirror, laser and SPAD technologies, optical system and embedded systems, then he/she will join the MEMS LiDAR program. Role may vary upon specific project needs The internship can be combined with a master thesis in agreement with a University tutor

Digital Design Intern

Attività

Lo studente in stage lavorerà presso il gruppo PCM design team (Non Volatile Memory –Phase Change Memory Design) parte del settore di ricerca e sviluppo di STM per le tecnologie Smart Power. Il dispositivo sarà caratterizzato accedendo direttamente al silicio del testvehicle e prototipo già presente. Il codice EWS sara’ eseguito da microcontrollore STM32 collegato al test vehicle e sviluppato in linguaggio C. Si valutera’ il tempo di esecuzione e la capacita’ di screening dei difetti, in allineamento con le indicazioni del flusso EWS di produzione e di qualifica delle memorie PCM. E’ possibile completare l’attivita’ con l’analisi e modifica di un test bench RTL specifico con la memoria PCM ed un Cortex M0 con esecuzione del codice sviluppato per valutare i tempi di esecuzione a livello CAD. Come conclusione un report tecnico di caratterizzazione verrà preparato dal candidato, nel quale si richiedono analisi approfondite dei risultati ottenuti.

CIRCUIT: DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPREHENSIVE PREDICTIVE TOOL - Internship

Analog, Mems & Sensor (AMS) group is one of the three ST Product Groups with the mission of design, develop, sell and support Analog IC (general purpose or custom), MEMS sensors / actuators and imaging Sensors. AMS is composed by ~3000 people all over the world serving more than 70000 customers.

The proposed project is developed within the AMS R&D department.

The capability to predict the behavior integrated circuits by simulation is one of the key aspect that enables the design of new and cutting-edge products. Nowadays, most of the disturbing effects, such as temperature and ageing, are covered in the conventional spice environment and can be studied and quantified by the design team. What is commonly left unquantified is the effect of direct mechanical stress, for example induced by the process of surface mounting the IC on the application board.

The aim of this project is to develop a comprehensive tool able to integrate the mechanical effects in the electrical spice simulator which at the end will help the design community in predict the behavior of the IC in the customer’s hands.

The project will integrate both simulation and experimental activities in order to finely match numerical and field results

Digital Verification Engineer

Design of digital circuits for audio power amplifier, from feasibility study to complete qualification and production. The candidate will have the ownership of verification activity collaborating with design/architecture teams.

Product Failure Analyst

Product failure analyst tasks consist in performing activities of analysis and reverse engineering on electronic devices showing a failure.

The candidate will be responsible of the following activities:

  • collection of all the necessary data for the failure mode comprehension and reproduction.
  • Reproduction at bench of the failure symptom.
  • Fault isolation through advanced lab equipment based on photon emission, laser stimulation, thermal emission.
  • Analysis of fault isolation results inside the IC, through design CAD navigation
  • Destructive physical analysis guidance, aimed at identifying the point of failure within the device.
  • Strong involvement in problem solving flow: joining crisis team, meeting internal and external customers, applying continuous brainstorming with all involved technical experts (product Engineers, designers, application engineers, FAB quality, program managers, reliability engineers, …)

The position allows to see all the steps of an IC fabrication, from the design phase to the manufacturing steps, growing competencies in product design, package and silicon manufacturing process.

The person will work in a team, in close collaboration with the people of it, in a context of Failure Analysis network, present at local level, in Agrate site, but also at international level, within STM but also outside the company.

Candidate profile

Technical skills:

  • physics and/or electronics, both digital and analog.
  • Hardware and/or software development.
  • Testing competences and semiconductors process flow are a plus.

Soft skills / attitudes:

  • strong perseverance, patience and orientation to reach the goal.

Software Developer

The candidate will be part “System Research and Applications” (SRA) organization, an applied research group devoted to defining and deploying innovative system and application solutions in close cooperation with ST product divisions. The candidate will be part of Artificial Intelligence Software & Tools group, in a team focused on the definition and development of AI tool solutions for deployment into ultra-constrained embedded systems.

The candidate will contribute to design, implement, and deliver innovative tools to automatically convert, optimize and map artificial neural networks generated by the most widely used deep learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow) on ST low power devices, with and without hardware accelerators.

Specific use cases and applications will be developed to support and demonstrate the new features introduced version after version.

The candidate will work in a dynamic team of highly professional and motivated people, will interact with colleagues involved in product development, marketing and will interact with regional AI competence centers, therefore interactions with customers will part of the work.

The SRA organization promotes intellectual propriety conception, and publications at the major international conferences. Moreover, for the sake of continuous innovation, contact and cooperation with Universities is fundamental, as well as participation into funded projects in European or National context.

For the above reasons, fluent English is needed.

  • Computer Science fundamentals and programming skills.
  • Expertise in Python and C code programming.

  • Deep Learning solutions definition, design, optimization, quantization using Keras/TensorFlow and/or Pytorch;

Analog / Mixed Test Engineer

Descrizione del ruolo

The function designs new Test Cell requirements with the Suppiers and Groups. It leads Test Cell introduction and qualification in BEM&T production sites. It drive test conversion and test configuration upgrade programs to optimize BEM&T installed base (e.g ATE, SLT, Burn-In, …). It provides Manufacturing Plants, Product Groups, Subcontractors and Customers with technical support to assure the best uniformity, effectiveness, yield, sustainability, and cost-efficiency of the adopted solutions.

Test SW Automation Engineer

The function designs the BEM&T strategy for Test Automation and coordinates new Tool Introduction processes execution and support for mission critical applications. Troubleshooting support to plant operations in case of Test Data defectiveness towards referential systems and equipment suppliers. Work with the plants to improve the test process, quality control process, and manufacturing hardware robustness.
